Altera Ships Stratix EP1S10, EP1S40, and EP1S80 Devices
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced that three new members of
its widely adopted Stratix(TM) FPGA family, the EP1S10, EP1S80, and EP1S40
devices, have shipped to customers. Offering more memory, I/O pins and
digital signal processing (DSP) capability than any competing device, the
EP1S80 has 79,040 logic elements (LEs) and 7.2 Mbits of embedded RAM.
"The Stratix family offered the only product in the market that could
address our needs," said Jim Stevens, vice president of EXFO Gnubi products.
"The EP1S80 had the memory and programmable logic capacity to meet our needs
both today and in the future, and it easily met our performance requirements
for our newest multi-channel product family."
The early and flawless rollout of Stratix devices, which are currently in
the hands of over one hundred and sixty customers, is attributed to the
modular architecture of Stratix FPGAs, combined with the extensive functional
verification of the devices before tape-out. With over 1,600 active customer
engagements, Altera remains committed to the timely delivery of the latest
FPGA technology.
"The pace and quality of the Stratix family rollout is setting a new bar
in the industry and is a consequence of our two years of experience with
all-copper process technology," said Tim Colleran, vice president of product
marketing at Altera. "The yields on all the Stratix devices have been
excellent, helping us meet the significant demand we're seeing for this
family. The rapid rate of adoption of Stratix devices indicates that the
Stratix family will be Altera's most successful FPGA family ever."
A total of four members of the Stratix family are now shipping to
customers, starting with the EPS125 devices, which begin shipping in May. Two
additional devices, the EP1S20 and EP1S30 devices, are expected to ship in the
next six weeks. The final two members of the Stratix family will begin
shipping in 2003. As Altera's highest-density FPGA product family, the
Stratix device family provides unmatched system performance and advanced
features such as TriMatrix(TM) memory, embedded DSP blocks, full-featured
phase locked loops (PLLs) for clock management, and abundant I/O interfaces.

About Stratix Devices
Stratix devices are based on a 1.5-V, 0.13-um, all-layer copper SRAM
process, with densities ranging from 10,570 to 114,140 LEs and up to 10 Mbits
of RAM. Stratix devices offer up to 28 DSP blocks with up to 224 embedded
multipliers, optimized for DSP applications that require high data processing.
Stratix devices support various differential I/O electrical standards such as
the LVDS, LVPECL, PCML, and HyperTransport(TM) standards, as well as
high-speed interfaces, including the UTOPIA IV, SPI-4 Phase 2, SFI-4, 10G
Ethernet XSBI, RapidIO(TM), HyperTransport, and other interfaces. Stratix
devices also offer a complete clock management solution with its hierarchical
clock structure and up to 12 phase-locked loops (PLLs). More technical
